President’s Posts

Michael Rao, Ph.D.

Today is an exciting day for Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Athletics as we welcome Mike Rhoades back to a place he knows well and loves dearly.

Coach Rhoades is the ideal leader for our men’s basketball team and is an excellent representative for our entire university. He knows how to win — something he has done his whole career, including at VCU. He is a skilled mentor committed to making sure student athletes receive a world class education while being leaders on the court.

With Coach Rhoades, we will continue to be one of America’s premier basketball programs. We are not a mid-major team or a stepping stone. Rather, we are a program that is respected across the country. Everything we do is with the highest integrity and I am thankful that Coach Rhoades is present to ensure this remains to be the truth.

I would like to thank VCU’s athletic director Ed McLaughlin and his colleagues for their quick and thoughtful leadership in hiring Coach Rhoades. They are unwavering in their effort to ensure VCU’s program remains at such a respected position on the national stage.

I am grateful for our student athletes — past and present — for representing the university so well. Their academic and athletic achievements are commendable and recognized not only by the university and the A10, but nationally. They are an excellent example to the recruits who will soon join our Ram Family in the coming year.

Along with the very best fans in college basketball and the university community, we would like to extend to you and your family a very warm welcome home.
