Official seal for VCU in black and gold.

As the Supreme Court reviews cases debating legal protections for LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in their workplace, I write to affirm VCU’s commitment to its core values and principles of equity, inclusion, and fairness for all people. I stand in support of LGBTQ+ members of our community. We are a diverse university and health system united by our common goal of serving humanity, and I am grateful for that.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are the bedrock of VCU. We will always work to protect our VCU communities and the communities we serve. The policies we have in place prohibiting discrimination (notice of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity; affirmative action guidelines Equity and Access Services) reinforce our deep, unwavering commitment to one another and to those we serve, no matter who they love, who they are, or where they live. I am committed to upholding VCU’s unrelenting focus on improving the human experience for every person from every background. It is who we are as a community, and it is who we will continue to be.

Thank you for breathing life into this mission and for taking pride in our work and in each other.
