Dave Dixon

VCU School of Pharmacy associate professor Dave Dixon has been elected a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, effective Feb. 1, in recognition of his professional achievement and commitment to quality cardiovascular care.

Dixon, only the fifth pharmacist ever to have been elected an ACC fellow, will be officially recognized March 19 at a convocation ceremony during the ACC’s 66th Annual Scientific Session in Washington.

The American College of Cardiology, a 52,000-member medical society, is professional home to the entire cardiovascular care team. Its mission is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health.

“The FACC designation has a long history of recognizing the top cardiovascular professionals in the world and honoring them for their commitment to advancing the field and ensuring patients get the best possible care,” said ACC president Richard Chazal. “Congratulations to Dr. Dixon for joining this elite group.”

Dave Dixon recently joined Rhonda Cooper-DeHoff, University of Florida College of Pharmacy, for a Medscape video discussion on PCSK9 inhibitors for clinicians managing patients with dyslipidemia.

Fellowship is one of the most distinguished designations the ACC offers its members and is the ultimate recognition of professional achievement. Fellows are elected based on their outstanding credentials, achievements, community contributions to cardiovascular medicine and recommendations from their peers attesting to their professional competence and commitment to excellence.

Each designate pledges a commitment to excellence in care and continuous learning and collaboration to improve heart health worldwide.

In addition to the ACC, Dixon is a fellow of the National Lipid Association and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. Among his previous national recognitions are the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s New Investigator Award and AACP’s Innovations in Teaching award. A member of the board of governors for the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology, he also serves as a preceptor for Richmond’s Center for Healthy Hearts and is interim executive director of the School of Pharmacy’s Center for Pharmacy Practice Innovation.
