Alumni, faculty, students to take part in 2017 VPhA Midyear
Among the VCU School of Pharmacy alumni who will lead sessions in the Feb. 25-26 Virginia Pharmacists Association Midyear Conference in Roanoke are Tehra James (Pharm.D. ’14) and Johnny Moore (B.S.’ 71) on “Pharmacy Robberies and Burglaries Part 2: How to Handle.” Moore also serves as 2016-17 VPhA president.
Donna Francioni-Proffitt (B.S. ’79) will participate in “Pharmacy’s Role in Medicaid’s Addiction Recovery & Treatment Services Program.” Sharon Gatewood (Pharm.D. ’02) and Tana Kaefer (Pharm.D. ’04) will participate in “Providing Enhanced Pharmacy Services: Virginia Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network.” Gatewood, who is on VCU School of Pharmacy faculty, is also a co-chair for VPhA’s Meeting and Education Committee.
Sarah Melton (B.S. ’91, Pharm.D. ’94) and Caroline Juran (B.S. ’95) will be panelists for “State of Emergency: Role of the Pharmacist in Preventing Opioid Abuse Deaths.” Margaret Robinson (Pharm.D. ’15) will address “Introduction and the Development of Point-of-Care Testing.”
The 36th Annual Rooke Lecture, named in honor of SOP alumnus Reginald Rooke (B.S. ’21), will be delivered by Joe Moose, co-owner of Moose Pharmacy and lead community pharmacy coordinator for Community Care of North Carolina.
Also, VCU School of Pharmacy will host an an Alumni and Friends Dessert Reception at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Pocahontas Room. Other social and networking events will include a Saturday evening VA CPESN gathering in the Washington Lecture Hall, and billiards in the Pine Room, hosted by the Academy of New and Future Practitioners. A Sunday morning breakfast will bring together student pharmacists and VPhA leaders; the School of Pharmacy’s student branch of VPhA’s parent organization, the American Pharmacists Association, is APhA-ASP.
