Academic Pharmacy Now features student contributions to opioid abuse research
Research by VCU School of Pharmacy professor Norman Carroll’s advisees and new alumnae Batula Electricwala and Anisha Patel is featured in the December edition of Academic Pharmacy Now. The article covers what a number of pharmacy schools and colleges nationwide are doing in relation to the opioid abuse crisis.
Electricwala and Patel, who graduated from VCU in December, completed their research while working on their Ph.D.s. “Taking Action to Fight Addiction” begins on p. 10 of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy publication; their findings are noted on pp. 12-13.
Electricwala’s dissertation title was “Economic Burden of Opiod Poisonings in Precription Opiod Users,” and Patel’s was “Characterization and Economic Burden Associated with Pediatric Opioid Exposures and Poisonings.”
