According to VCU chapter president Heather Savage, the meeting will take place Oct. 16-18 — the ides of American Pharmacists Month! — at the Richmond Marriott, 500 E. Broad St. The “Richmond Red Carpet” theme refers to the fact that the hosts plan to roll out the red carpet for the next generation of pharmacy VIPs.

The Midyear Regional Meeting offers networking, professional and leadership development, educational programming and opportunities to meet student pharmacists from across the region. About 400 students from Region 2 – which includes 20 pharmacy schools and colleges in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia – are expected to attend.

Savage says planning for the regional meeting has been a group effort by all VCU chapter members. “We wouldn’t have been able to pull together such a great event without their collective effort. I think it is going to be a great weekend!”

APhA-ASPEvents scheduled for all Midyear Regional Meetings this fall include sessions called “Live Your Why,” “Moving Pharmacy Forward,” “ABCs of OTC Literacy” and “Navigating Your Pharmacy Career”; election of regional officers; a Career Opportunities Expo; the APhA-ASP Policy Forum and Regional Patient Care Awards; a CV Clinic-Strategies Workshop and more. Tom Reinders, VCU School of Pharmacy associate dean for admissions and student services, will offer opening remarks for Region 2, and professor Jean-Venable “Kelly” Goode, president-elect of APhA, will speak.

The VCU chapter of APhA-ASP promotes the profession of pharmacy through legislative affairs, community service, public relations and social activities. Among the events it promotes or helps sponsor are American Pharmacists Month (including Faculty Appreciation Day), Virginia Pharmacists Association’s Legislative Day and National Wear Red Day. Associate professor Sharon Gatewood serves as advisor.
