Virginia Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists 2015 Fall Seminar, which took place  Oct. 9-10 in Williamsburg, included several sessions helmed by VCU School of Pharmacy faculty and alumni.

In addition, assistant professor and 2003 alumna Leigh Anne Gravatt was presented the Clinical Pharmacy Practice Achievement Award. The award recognizes recent contributions to the development and provision of a patient-oriented pharmacy service that involves direct patient care and/or public visibility.

Fourth-year Pharm.D. students Ashley-Nicole Carmichael and Aulbrey Drisaldi received Certificates of Achievement for winning the 2015 Jennifer E. Stallings College Bowl. They will go on to represent the school at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Skills Competition in New Orleans in December.

Also, third-year Pharm.D. student Erin Hickey. president of SVSHP (VCU’s Student Chapter of VSHP), was recognized for contributing to the creation of the new VSHP logo.

During the VSHP Leadership Retreat in June, she and fellow student Andrew Brown had the opportunity to help develop the organization’s new mission and vision. Members of the VSHP executive board mentioned they were in search of a new logo, and alumna Emily Dyer furnished some drafts created by her husband, who is a graphic designer.

“After noticing the alignment in the mission/vision with ASHP’s,” said Hickey, “I thought that the new ASHP ‘swoosh’ looked a lot like the state of Virginia.”

Hickey drafted a new logo incorporating the shape of the Commonwealth and including the words “Educate. Advocate. Collaborate.”

“It was a hit [with the board],” she reported. “Emily’s husband then did professional work … and with her influence and vision, and it is what it is now!”

VSHP logoVSHP President-elect and SOP alumnus Rafael Saenz (Pharm.D. ’03) recognized Hickey during the Fall Seminar student programming, emphasizing that collectively students had had a say in the new brand.

“It means so much to me and all of the students to feel valued by VSHP!” Hickey said.

In addition to Saenz, who is assistant dean for the School of Pharmacy’s U.Va. Division, the 2015-16 VSHP officer roster features a number of SOP alumni:
