New Orleans is the place to be! Twelve VCU School of Pharmacy students, three alumni and one faculty member headed to NOLA in late July for the 40th Annual  Meeting of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association.

The meeting — with the theme of “We Need to Get There. Let’s Build a Bridge Together” — was held at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott at the Convention Center. SNPhA celebrated its 40th anniversary during the meeting.

Chapter president Nellie Jafari reported that the SOP’s student SNPhA chapter exhibited a strong presence, both regionally and nationally:

  • Kimmi Stanfield (P3) represented VCU as chapter delegate.
  • Nellie Jafari (P3) and Samson Lee (P3) represented the school in the Patient Counseling Clinical Skills Competition.
  • Samson Lee received the Gayle Tuckett Book Award, named after SOP alum and former SNPhA chapter president Gayle Tuckett (Pharm.D. ’12).
  • Merid Belayneh (Pharm.D. ’13) was selected by the SNPhA National Executive Board to be on the Elections Committee.
  • Aisha Masood (Pharm.D. ’13) and Deborah Jackson (Pharm.D. ’13) represented the school on the National Executive Board. (Masood was  National Power to End Stroke Chair and Jackson was facilitator for Region III.)

VCU’s SNPhA chapter advisor, associate professor Leticia Moczygemba, also attended, along with students Dejan Bratcher (P3), LaRhonda Brown (P2), Jasmine Corse (P2), Briana Ferebee (P2), Karanita Fuller (P3), Kisha Grigsby (P2), Ben Iredell (P2), Jazmine Robertson (P2) and Genova Washington (P4) .

“Overall, the VCU chapter got a chance to foster great relationships with other schools and sponsors at the conference,” said Jafari. “We look forward to hosting the Regions I and II Meeting Feb. 28 through March 2.”

The 2014 regional meeting will take place at the Omni Richmond Hotel.
