The Texas A&M Health Science Center Foundation and the TAMHSC Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy have established a fund in honor and memory of Beverly Talluto.

Talluto, who served as assistant dean for experiential education at VCU School of Pharmacy from 2004 to 2009, died July 6, 2013, at age 71.07262013_1

“Bev was an inspiration to me as a mentor and a friend,” said Denise Emminger, director of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience in the school’s Office of Experiential Education. “Her work ethic went above and beyond, and she could be counted on to get the job done. She will be truly missed.”

During Talluto’s tenure at VCU School of Pharmacy, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy presented its 2008 Crystal APPLE Award to the school and community partner Ron Davis of Buford Road Pharmacy for providing exemplary experiential education. APPLE stands for Academic-Practice Partnerships for Learning Excellence.

After leaving VCU, Talluto worked three years as associate dean for clinical programs at the Rangel College of Pharmacy. Last summer, she was named director of continuing pharmacy education at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy.

She also served as pharmacist and owner of Frankfort Square Pharmacy in Frankfort, Ill., and Wolf Road Pharmacy in Mokena, Ill.

Paul Davis, executive director for the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, called Talluto a “dear friend of the college” in the memorial fund announcement. “This fund,” he wrote, “will be utilized to epitomize and symbolize Talluto’s legacy at the TAMHSC Rangel College of Pharmacy.”

That legacy, as detailed by an “in memoriam” piece published by Rangel College, included the application of extensive experience in experiential planning, success in preceptor involvement, continuous program improvement and expanded use of technology in the experiential program.

Talluto is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Talluto; daughter Charmaine and son-in-law Jeffery Jackson; son Joseph and daughter-in-law Jodie; son Marc and daughter-in-law Noel; two brothers and sisters-in-law; and 10 grandchildren.
