Important update: LPR transition on July 1
We would like to remind you that beginning July 1, VCU Parking and Transportation will no longer recognize physical hangtag permits at VCU parking facilities. By now, all subscribers should have updated their license plate(s) in the online parking portal and linked them to their virtual permit. For assistance with this process, visit go.vcu.edu/lpr.
As we transition to the license plate recognition (LPR) virtual permit system on July 1, we will implement the following steps to ensure a smooth change:
- July 1-21: Courtesy warning postcards will be issued to customers whose license plates are not linked to their virtual permits and to vehicles parked with their plates not facing the drive lane.
- July 22-28: True warning citations (tied to parking accounts) will be issued for the above violations.
- Starting July 29, standard citations will be issued for all violations.
Note that all other standard citations (i.e., parking over the line, ADA, wrong permit, etc.) remain fully enforceable during this period.
Please remember that if you use your VCU ID card to access your parking facility, your license plate must still be updated in your parking account and linked to your virtual permit to ensure our mobile LPR units can read it correctly.
We continue to fine-tune the fixed LPR cameras within parking decks. The phased launch has enabled us to retrieve essential data, leading to necessary adjustments such as camera angles. The LPR system is improving daily, with the number of successful reads continuing to rise. Once the remaining adjustments are completed, positive read rates should increase substantially.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement LPR across VCU. If you have questions or feedback about LPR, please email us at [email protected].
