Here are a few ideas to liven things up:

  1. Have your students create an Ignite style presentation using VoiceThread.  The link is to an Echo video I created that walks students how to create a PowerPoint, use the notes feature to create the script, upload to VoiceThread and choose the Ignite format.  An Ignite style format is a presentation format that is 20 slides, 15 seconds per slide, automatic advance.  The Ignite format is similar to the Pecha Kucha format which is 20 slides x 20 seconds per slide.  There are events all around the country with folks standing in front of large crowds to give their Pecha Kucha or Ignite presentations.  The presentations are highly visual, engaging, and tell a story.  It is possible to set up a VoiceThread so that it is set up for either format.
  2. Have students watch the Lynda.com course: Creating a Keynote Presentation.  It describes the magic of emotions and the power of stories.
  3. Have them watch a few Ted Talks.  Ted is very particular about the format – and it is based on the idea of story.
