Put Some Tech in Your T&L

Blackboard will be upgrading their Wimba Classroom Servers this weekend.  The Wimba Classroom server will be unavailable on Saturday, December 17 beginning at 10:00pm until Sunday, December 18 at 8:00am. This upgrade includes server-side updates, as well as client-side (end user) updates, such as additional support for application sharing, support for more current video devices, and bug fixes. To review more details regarding what to expect when upgrading to Wimba Classroom 6.1.6, click here.

There are no visible changes to the overall Classroom interface. However, there are some changes needed to the files installed on the end user’s computer, which requires that you run the setup wizard after the upgrade, at least 24 hours before your next Wimba Classroom session.

The setup wizard will:

  • Check to see if the computer is capable of running the new version (Wimba Classroom 6.1.6).
  • Verify network connectivity and all ports and firewalls will receive/send traffic.
  • Download and install Wimba media components including a horizonmedia.exe file necessary to communicate in Wimba Classroom.
  • Ensure that the computer can communicate using the new horizonmedia.exe file.

You can access the setup wizard on your Wimba Classroom server once it has been upgraded at: http://vculive.wimba.com/wizard/wizard.html.pl?no_sidebar=1&wizardconf=wizard.conf
