Office of Alumni Relations

The latest news from Virginia Commonwealth University

Welcome to the VCU African American Alumni Council web page. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as president for the 2022-24 term. As president, I will continue to ensure that we are known as one of the best alumni groups at Virginia Commonwealth University as well as align our goals with VCU Alumni’s strategic priorities.

These goals are:

Engagement
We will meet this goal — also a VCU Alumni strategic priority — by advancing our lifelong relationship with the university and developing ways for members to connect and serve as advocates and ambassadors for the university. We will continue the committees in the AAAC that strengthen engagement and create new committees to further this goal.

Volunteerism and giving
This is another VCU Alumni priority. Our goal is to create volunteer events, possibly partnering with other affinity alumni organizations, to give back to VCU students and our communities. One way to meet this goal is our excellent Mentoring Circle, which I encourage you all to join.

Recruitment and retention
We will focus on reaching out to recent graduates about the council and how to get involved. We will create a committee to look at ways to involve recent graduates and retain those we have. Preliminary discussions have begun to attend student and alumni affinity organization meetings to introduce ourselves and explain our mission.

I am excited to serve in this position and look forward to working with all of you, continuing our traditions as well as creating new experiences. Watch your inbox for updates; if you have updates or questions, email us at aaac@alumni.vcu.edu.
