Staff update

This summer we said goodbye to two superb members of our clinical team. Charlene Chambers, former clinic manager, is assuming the role of full-time grandma. Austin Thomas, former surgical assistant, is pursuing his goal of becoming a dental hygienist. We appreciate their devotion to our residents and patients. Best wishes to Charlene and Austin!

New clinical staff members include Keria Coleman (left) surgical assistant, and Valerie Douglas (right) clinic manager. Keria’s compassion for patients and attention to detail are shining through at chairside. Valerie’s strong work ethic and years of experience as a surgical assistant are enhancing clinical efficiency in the graduate clinic.
We also recently welcomed Emily Yeaman as an executive administrative assistant. She brings a wealth of experience to our administrative office regarding School of Dentistry protocols and operations. Emily’s resourcefulness, excellent critical thinking skills, and pleasant demeanor makes her an asset to the department.

What’s next for the School of Dentistry?

In January 2021, alumni learned of the VCU Health System’s decision to remove the school’s dental clinics from the Adult Outpatient Pavilion (AOP) now nearing completion across the street from the Perkinson Building. If you missed the webinar with VCU Health System CEO Arthur Kellermann, M.D., M.P.H., and Interim Dean Clara Spatafore, D.D.S., M.S., you can read the excerpts in Dentistry magazine.
