Dr. Mary Pettiette, immediate past president of the AAE Foundation and associate dean for admissions, accepted the 2020 ADEAGies Award for Achievement – Public or Private Partner.

One of the AAE Foundation for Endodontics’ flagship programs is the Endodontic Educator Fellowship Award, which supports outstanding educators who commit a minimum of five years to a full-time academic career in endodontics. Recipients of the award receive up to $250,000 in funding, disbursed over five years, in recognition of the critical role educators play in strengthening the specialty. The fellowship ensures that outstanding educators and departments have the support needed to confidently train endodontists and dentists alike.

Since 2001, the Foundation has remained dedicated to this program and has awarded 24 individuals with the fellowship. To date, 92% of our fellows are still teaching and performing research in dental schools. In late August, the Foundation selected the 25th fellow.

In July, the ADEAGies Foundation awarded the Gies Award for Achievement – Public or Private Partner in recognition of this impactful program to support full-time endodontic educators. Named after dental education pioneer William J. Gies, Ph.D., the ADEAGies Award is the dental profession’s preeminent recognition for individuals and organizations that exemplify the highest standards in oral health and dental education, research and leadership.

Mary Pettiette, D.D.S., immediate past president of the AAE Foundation and associate dean for admissions and professor at the VCU School of Dentistry, accepted the award at a virtual ceremony.

“Supporting full-time educators, who bring value and experience to the clinic where future specialists are being educated, is only possible thanks to our generous donors who believe in excellence and a strong future for endodontics,” she says. “We are thrilled and honored to win the Gies Award for Achievement – Public or Private Partner. The Foundation for Endodontics is an outstanding example of how excellence in dental education can be cultivated and rewarded, and I couldn’t be prouder of our organization!”
