Tiffany L. Williams named director of student recruitment
VCU School of Dentistry Dean David C. Sarrett, D.M.D., M.S., and Associate Dean of Admissions, Mary Pettiette, D.D.S., announce the appointment of Tiffany L. Williams, D.D.S., M.S.D., to director of student recruitment. She joins the admissions office from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry where she served as pre-doc director.
“Dr. Williams brings great energy and enthusiasm to the recruitment position,” says Pettiette. “She has a multifaceted dental background in many areas of dental training. It is exciting to think of our applicants being recruited by such a highly-trained dental specialist.”
Williams assumes the position formerly held by Susie R. Goolsby, D.D.S., M.S.H.A., who recently rejoined the Department of General Practice and now leads GPG-5. She will continue to lead the Thrive program.
“As Director of Student Recruitment, Dr. Goolsby greatly enhanced our recruitment and application success, particularly for underrepresented minority students,” Pettiette says. “She served in this role while managing her ongoing appointment in the Department of General Practice. Dean Sarrett and I thank her for her important work as she makes a new career transition.”
A VCU School of Dentistry alumna, Tiffany Williams earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. She trained at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a first year general practice resident and spent a second year of hospital training at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, as chief resident. Williams completed her pediatric dental training at VCU and assumed a faculty position immediately following her residency training in 2014.
In the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, she coordinated changes in curriculum for the students rotating through the pediatric dental clinic. She is the faculty coordinator for the VCU Jamaica Project and is very committed to improving the oral health of the people of Jamaica. She has traveled with dental students to Jamaica for the last eight years in addition to establishing connections with and lecturing at the University of Technology School of Dentistry in Kingston, Jamaica. Through this project, and alongside a team of hygienists and dentists, the Sealant Team was initiated, focusing on preventive care for the children in Trelawny, Jamaica.
Williams is an active member of the AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) and the NDA (National Dental Association). She also serves on the Clinical Advisory Board for Virginia Health Catalyst, helping to ensure equitable access to care for Virginians. As part of the iCubed Oral Health Care in Childhood and Adolescence Core at VCU, she is working closely with other faculty across the Monroe Park Campus to investigate and address barriers to the prevention and treatment of dental caries in the children and adolescents of Richmond.
She is a Richmond native and has been very active in the community through the Peter B. Ramsey Dental Society, the Alumni Association of Richmond Community High School, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richmond where she was recognized as Big Sister of the Year in 2019.
“I am very excited about this new role,” she says. “I have always enjoyed mentoring students who are eager to enter the dental profession, so to be directly involved in recruiting, mentoring and advising full time makes this less of a job and more of a fulfilled calling.”
