Dr Todd Kitten has received an award from the American Heart Association. He will use the $154,000 to identify small molecule inhibitors of an endocarditis virulence factor

Dr Janina Lewis was one of the recipients of the Virginia Commonwealth University Presidential Research Quest Fund. Dr. Lewis will use the funding to look at the global regulation of gene expression by OxyR in periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivali

Dr Janina Lewis also received an award of $1.9 million from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial research to explore ‘Nitrosative stress defenses in periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivali

Dr Parthasarathy Madurantakam received a CCTR Endowment Fun award of $129.150. Dr Madurantakam is collaborating with Dr Gary Bowlin of the biomedical engineering department in the school of engineering. Together they  will be exploring polymer –reinforced collagenous nanofiber scaffolds and gingiva-derived mesenchymal stem cells for bone engineering.

Dr Ping Xu received an award of $1.9 million from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial research to explore the‘Interaction of colonizer and pathogen in oral biofilm’
