Georgia on our mind at the Hinman Dental Meeting
Each year, thousands of dentists and other dental professionals flock to Atlanta, Ga. for the annual Hinman Dental Meeting. This March, the VCU School of Dentistry hosted an alumni/student reception during the three-day conference thanks to a suggestion from Dr. Pete Trager (D.D.S. ’68).
Trager, a long-time supporter of the VCU School of Dentistry and active member of the Hinman Dental Society, encouraged VCU to participate in the 101st Hinman event along with the number of other dental schools that host receptions for their dental grads. VCU alumni and current dental students at Hinman were invited, and the VCU reception turned out to be the most well attended university event.
“It was great to see all of the students,” said Trager. “The Hinman Society was very impressed with VCU’s registration numbers, especially the students entering the profession and young dentists.”
During the reception, alumni who had traveled from far and wide to attend the continuing education conference mingled with nearly 50 VCU dental students and many recent grads. Students and representatives from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations took the opportunity to update alumni on changes at the dental school, including the new university seal that incorporates MCV and RPI along with the Egyptian Building.
“Hinman was a great way to reinvigorate alumni engagement outside of the Richmond area,” said Gloria Callihan, associate dean for development and alumni affairs. “We look forward to visiting more in-state and out-of-state alumni in the near future.”
