Wright Center associate director joins national committee on lung health
With COVID-19 affecting the lungs of patients and survivors, lung research and science has never been more important.
To help guide national review of that science, Wright Center Associate Director Patrick Nana-Sinkam, M.D., has joined the Scientific Advisory Committee of the American Lung Association.
Founded in 1904, the oldest voluntary health organization in the country, the American Lung Association used education, advocacy and research to virtually eradicate tuberculosis in the United States. It aims to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
The committee that Nana-Sinkam will serve on is charged with responsibility for the association’s research portfolio, oversight of their grant review process and monitoring the Airway Clinical Research Centers Network, which is the nation’s largest nonprofit network of clinical centers dedicated to asthma and COPD research. The committee also develops scientific policies and other initiatives.
Nana-Sinkam serves in a career development and mentoring role at the C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, guiding and supporting early career faculty in their research. He is also the chair of the Division of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the VCU School of Medicine.
