Today we’re thrilled to spotlight the Walker family! Amanda, Alan, Ben and VCU student Scott are from Mechanicsville, Virginia. Scott, an Actuarial Science (Financial Technology) major, is set to graduate as a member of the Class of 2022. Check out our interview with the Walker family below:

What made you all choose VCU?

Great actuarial program and close to home.

What has been your favorite experience at VCU so far?

Social clubs, fraternity (gamma iota sigma) networking and TA job (Scott is a VCU employee as well).

What was your favorite Family Weekend event and why? (If you did not attend Family Weekend you pick another event you attended)

Freshman orientation week: So excited for Scott to discover mom’s old stomping grounds.

Have you had any memorable moments with your student so far this year? (i.e. calling you the first time they were sick on their own, etc.)

Having him home 24/7 is new. He used to disappear for about 12 hours a day to campus.

What advice would you give to students and/or other parents and families?

Everyone is human. Be kind and flexible.

What else would you like us to know about your family? (This could be anything you want to share including hobbies, creative remote learning set-ups and more!)

Ben, our HS student will be attending culinary school to be a baker. No VCU culinary program 🙁 Amanda is VCU class of ’93 Mass Communications/Public Relations

We want to highlight you! From first-years to super seniors, each month we will spotlight a different family to learn more about their experience with VCU.
