Family Spotlight: The Pabon Family
Today we’re thrilled to spotlight the Pabon family! Victor, Deirdre, Valeria, and VCU student Alexandra are from Midlothian, Virginia and Alexandra, a Biochemistry major, is set to graduate as a member of the Class of 2024. Check out our interview with the Pabon family below:
What made you all choose VCU?
Great university, location and the opportunity for scholarships.
What has been your favorite experience at VCU so far?
My daughter’s experiences with her first year in VCU. The safety, the housing, the meals, and more importantly the academics. The professors have been able to provide students with an academic experience that surpasses my expectations in this pandemic. She has continued to be challenged and she really enjoys her experience as a 1st year despite the pandemic.
Having the opportunity to take and help your child arrange their dorm, is the best experience as a parent I had. The safety measures, the cleanliness, the rooms, and her roommate have been an assurance that my child is safe. Also, she is in an environment that she will strive in. I wish we would have been able to do more stuff, but I am grateful for this opportunity.
What advice would you give to students and/or other parents and families?
Be positive with your child, we know that they are missing some important experiences about college life due to the pandemic. I assure my daughter that there will be time, that she can go to all her classes, meet with friends, and enjoy the college experience. Although I am saddened because of it, I just give her hope that it will be different.
What else would you like us to know about your family? (This could be anything you want to share including hobbies, creative remote learning set-ups and more!)
