Alumni, families and friends are invited to join alumni authors on VCU Alumni’s Facebook page as they read their children’s books to promote National Read a Book Day on Sept. 6.

If your student can’t make it to class ring sales in person or if they don’t feel comfortable attending in person, they can attend a virtual Q&A with Balfour representatives. Registration is required.

Racial disparities in education

Join the VCU Alumni Richmond Chapter and alumni, faculty, staff and special guests for a virtual panel on racial disparities in K-12 and higher education.

Noon-1 p.m. EDT Monday, Sept. 21

The Right to Vote: Election Integrity and Advocacy

Alex Keena, Ph.D., assistant professor in the VCU Department of Political Science, hosts a discussion on election integrity and advocacy efforts in the lead up to the 2020 presidential election. He is joined by a panel of VCU alumni involved in the protection of free and fair elections, voter registration and advocacy efforts and issues about voting accessibility and security. This program is in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 22.

Sept. 21-25

Alumni Charity Challenge

For the week of Sept. 21-25, the VCU Alumni Richmond Chapter and other university alumni chapters compete to raise funds and collect nonperishable food donations to benefit Feed More, the central Virginia food bank. Help the Richmond Chapter win for the second year in a row by participating. You can donate online throughout the week or drop off donations safely at a location in Richmond.

Making “Cents” of Your Credit

Join the VCU Office of Alumni Relations and the VACU Financial Success Center at VCU for this alumni finance webinar featuring Annette Koroma (B.S.’20/B), a credit risk analyst team member at Dominion Energy, who provides an introduction to understanding credit basics such as credit scores and building your credit. You also can receive recommendations for building or rebuilding your credit.

Investing in an Election Year

Markets can experience increased volatility leading up to an election and it leaves many investors wondering, “What’s going to happen to the stock market if this candidate wins?” In this virtual session, John Cinella, associate managing director in the broker/dealer division of MFS Fund Distributors Inc., shares historical market reactions to all the various scenarios that have happened with party control in both the White House and Congress and discusses how politics can affect personal investments.
