What is Your Student Doing this Summer?
Does your student have a plan for their summer break? It seems far away now, but summer will be here before you know it and students should think ahead to what they want to accomplish during their time away from campus. Some students may want to use the break to rest and recharge before diving into another busy year, but there are also many options for those who want to get a jump start on their academic and career goals.
Study Abroad
Students have the incredible opportunity to study abroad through the VCU Global Education Office, which offers flexible program options to allow students to find the best fit for their individual goals. Trips can range from a week, a month or the entire semester. The summer program is a short-term intensive instruction where students can earn credits and study multiple subjects.
For those students who want a glimpse into what program would be right for them, The Global Education Office will host the Study Abroad Spring Fair in Rodney’s Lounge, Shafer Court Dining Center, 810 Cathedral Place TODAY from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. It’s not too late to find a study abroad program for summer or fall 2019. Students can learn more about faculty-led, short-term and semester-long options and talk with Study Abroad staff, students who have previously participated and faculty program leaders. Internships and Job Shadowing
Students should first reach out to their departmental advisors for specific internships or job shadowing opportunities within their major and field of study, as they may know of local positions that would be a good fit. VCU Career Services can also help students find internships, brush up on their interviewing skills, fine-tune their resumes and much more. If your student needs help setting their professional or career goals the staff at Career Services can help them formulate a plan.
Summer Studies
If your student just can’t bear to be away from campus for the summer, they can catch up, stay on track or even get ahead by signing up for classes during Summer Studies. Summer Studies at VCU offers more than 800 courses, over 275 of which are online, throughout 11 different sessions. Students can earn up to 15 credits towards their degree. Students are encouraged to speak with their advisor to see if Summer Studies might be a good fit for their individual goals and academic needs.
