Family Spotlight: Gatling Family
What is the best way to ensure your student gets the most out of their time at Virginia Commonwealth University? Take advantage of resources! There are so many programs and resources at VCU designed to help your student succeed, from Financial Aid and Registration to Career Services and more.
The Gatling family of Suffolk, Virginia firmly believes that utilizing resources boosts student success. Lewis P. Gatling, a Digital Photography and Film major in the VCU School of the Arts (VCUarts) and his parents Veleka and R. Perez Gatling have enjoyed the efficiency and effectiveness of their experiences at VCU, especially during move-in and interactions with Lewis’s advisor. They appreciate the responses and timeliness in returning calls and emails, and the helpful information shared in webinars.
“I know life can get hectic, but it is critical to stop and pay attention to the information being given to ensure your child’s success,” said Ms. Gatling. “If you don’t understand various correspondence reach out to the responsible staff.”
Lewis chose VCU after his experience at VCUarts Summer Intensive, a pre-college program that gives students the opportunity to create and develop art and design skills over three weeks during the summer. Students explore their interests and meet other students from across the country and around the world, building lasting bonds through courses and social experiences.
