As you have probably heard from your student(s) or the news, the world is coming to Richmond via the 2015 UCI Road World Championships (called The Worlds for short) from September 19-27, 2015.  We are very excited about the cultural opportunity this provides for your student as more than 70 countries will be represented in the nine-day cycling event.  While we know some students plan to leave town for the week, we hope that most will stay and experience all that The Worlds has to offer.  As a reminder:

  • Regular classes will not be held on the Monroe Park Campus from Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25, 2015.  Students on the MCV Campus — in the schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy — will need to check with their respective academic programs regarding classes as each program’s schedule will be managed separately.
  • There are a number of very exciting, one-credit, special-topics courses related to the race that will be offered at a reduced tuition rate of $50 per course. A list of these courses can be found at richmond2015.vcu.edu/courses.html.
  • All residence halls will remain open during the race so that students will have the option to stay on campus and participate in work, meaningful community service, education or event-related activities. Students will also have access to most academic buildings. Several dining facilities will also remain open.
  • Many events will be taking place on campus for students who decide to stay for the week.  In addition to all of the opportunities to participate in the race, University Student Commons and Activities is offering a host of social events including a trip to Busch Gardens, movie nights on and off campus, bowling, game nights and more!  You can find the full schedule here.

You can find out more about the bike race on the university’s website at richmond2015.vcu.edu and follow the races at #TheWorldsatVCU.
