Grace & Lauren Housing Project Underway
In an effort to meet high student demand for on-campus housing, Residential Life and Housing broke ground on the new West Grace Housing Project in February, marking the university’s first new housing development since 2018. This 325,000-square-foot project will offer approximately 1,000 new beds for VCU students.
Living on campus remains popular due to a supportive, intentionally designed environment that focuses on providing students with a safe and secure residential experience. The halls offer programs designed to help students learn essential skills for living independently and harmoniously with others. Furthermore, living in VCU residence halls continues to positively impact student success; year after year, on-campus residents maintain higher retention rates and academically outperform their off-campus counterparts across every level (first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior).
The West Grace Street Housing Project will feature approximately 1,000 single and double semi-suite-style beds. The ground floor will include a secure residential lobby, as well as space for housing operations, faculty offices, resident amenities, and conferencing. Additional ground-floor features include a 5,000-square-foot dining venue, two 1,500-square-foot retail spaces, and a 6,000-square-foot mail center.
This new residential facility is slated to open in fall 2028.
