School of Social Work

No. 28 M.S.W. Program in the U.S.

Dear social work faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the school,

As I reflect on the election and have spoken with many of you, as well as friends from across the nation, it is clear that no matter your political beliefs, this election has taken a toll on our minds and hearts. Nevertheless, it is comforting for me to know that while local and national leadership changes, the VCU School of Social Work remains steadfast in its mission to support student success, the advancement of knowledge and strengthen our communities.

We are an institution of higher education, dedicated to the creation of safe spaces where collaboration, inclusion and innovation can thrive. We are an active and powerful partner with our communities, dedicated to facing the social concerns of the 21st century. We are a national leader in social work education, preparing influential scholars, practitioners and professional leaders in social work.

I encourage each of you to continue to engage in positive dialogues, listen and learn from one another as our community and nation enter into a new era of leadership. Our friends, our families, our communities and the populations we serve are depending on us to work by their side to create a safe and equitable world.

I am proud of the inspirational work I have seen at our school in my two months as dean and look forward to what the future holds.

Sincerely,

Timothy L. Davey, Ph.D.
Interim dean
VCU School of Social Work
