Dear VCU and VCU Health Communities:

Since 2011, when we launched the Quest for Distinction strategic plan, Virginia Commonwealth University has been on a journey to become one of the nation’s premier urban, public research universities.

Thanks to the talent and vision of you — our dedicated faculty and staff — and the philanthropic investment of our alumni and friends, we have indeed become a more-relevant research university for the 21st century.  I am thankful for the solid educational foundation our students have and know that they will receive a world-class education.

I believe it’s important that we celebrate our successes. In that spirit, I hope you will join me for a month-long celebration of our past, present and future, while recognizing those who laid the foundation for us.

April is VCU Alumni Month. As a member of our university community, you are invited to join in April’s Alumni Month activities, even if you are not a VCU graduate.

To celebrate, all faculty and staff are encouraged to show their VCU spirit by wearing university gear or black and gold to work every Friday in April.

VCU Alumni has collaborated with units throughout the university to pull together many events on and near campus during April. You can find a complete list at VCU Alumni. I hope you will take part in some of them, such as the VCU Alumni and Community Bike RideVCU Alumni Night at The Diamond and the RPI, MCV Campus and AAAC reunions and so much more. Engaging our alumni is vital to the continued growth and development of our university. Please show your support and help spread the word about these opportunities.

As vital members of the VCU family, please make time to join with alumni — from throughout the entire university, all eras of our history — to celebrate together.

Sincerely,

Michael Rao, Ph.D.
President
