VCU Staff Senate serves as advocates for full-time, non-faculty university staff. The organization will hold universitywide elections this summer and encourages your participation. Any classified or University and Academic Professional staff person at VCU with at least one year of service is eligible to run. More information can be found below.

Dear VCU colleagues,

The VCU Staff Senate has served as the representative body and voice of all VCU staff members since 1991. This summer, the VCU Staff Senate will expand membership by holding university-wide elections. The elections will result in broader representation of VCU non-faculty, full-time employee concerns across both campuses and the opportunity for a more diverse and engaged group of senators.

This new phase of the VCU Staff Senate presents an exciting opportunity for VCU staff members who are interested in running for election to represent their colleagues. Any full-time VCU staff member with at least one year of employment is eligible to run.

Staff Senators serve on university committees, help address staff questions and concerns, and advocate for staff issues. Topics of focus include career development, shared university governance, diversity, accessibility, and workplaces that foster a spirit of respect, dignity, unity, and collaboration.

Elections timeline:

  • Nominations: June 1 – 25
  • Voting: July 19 – 31
  • New Senate installed: August 19, 2021 meeting

If you, or someone you know, would make an excellent addition to Staff Senate, consider nominating yourself or a colleague when nominations begin next month. For more information about the Staff Senate election, visit the FAQ page. You are also encouraged to read the VCU News article published today on Staff Senate elections.

The Staff Senate will hold an informational town hall via Zoom on Tuesday, May 25 at noon to answer questions and provide details about the upcoming election process. Please join us as we look forward to this exciting transition.

Best regards,
