Graduates celebrating at commencement

This weekend, more than 4,700 students will become Virginia Commonwealth University’s newest alumni. This diverse group of students — graduating from one of America’s premier public research universities — is well-prepared for the journey on which they are about to embark.

My faculty colleagues have shaped, mentored and prepared the Class of 2016 to do great things. At VCU, we ask all of our people to make a difference in their fields and in their communities, and the world is counting on our newest alumni to be a new generation of leaders. They are following in the footsteps of tens of thousands of VCU Alumni before them, whose remarkable talent and capacity to achieve has elevated VCU in so many ways.

Now, our new graduates will begin their work of changing the world and make it a better place for all. This new chapter in their lives is also a new chapter in the progress of humanity. I look forward to seeing our graduates take charge of the impossible and make positive change for all.

Please join me in celebrating the Class of 2016. Together, we celebrate the achievement of their commencement. We are extremely proud of each and every graduate.
