Friday, June 27, marked an historic day for Virginia Commonwealth University and our health system as we came together with representatives from Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, Va., to sign an affiliation agreement to join operations. With this agreement, beginning July 1, CMH will be renamed VCU Community Memorial Hospital and will become part of the VCU Health System.

Three years ago, we set forth on our strategic plan, Quest for Distinction, to become the nation’s premier, urban public research university. We also set forth a commitment to focus on human health through bench-to-bedside research, through clinical trials that deliver breakthroughs and innovations in health care, and through professionalism in care that provides service centered on patients and the ways human beings are diverse.

We are proud to join with CMH to advance that mission in Southside Virginia. Together, we will focus resources and talents on helping Virginians live healthy lives so that they may contribute to and lead in our commonwealth and make a difference in the lives of others.
