Supporting our Rams

As we celebrate our Rams’ third consecutive appearance in the NCAA national tournament, I encourage all faculty and staff members and students at Virginia Commonwealth University to wear black and gold on game days. The first game is Thursday vs. Akron.
VCU has become a Top 50 public national research university, fueled by game-changing successes across the university, including your commitment to academic rigor. More and more people have taken notice of our university. For example, in the last week, we saw members of the now-famous Peppas pep band on the “Today Show,” alongside Matt Lauer, who said “You don’t try to trump the folks at VCU” and that co-host Al Roker “is among the VCU faithful.” We saw noted film director Spike Lee, who spoke on campus last month, sitting on the sidelines at the A-10 Tournament last weekend wearing a VCU jersey. Our Rowdy Rams were just named the Naismith National Student Section of the Year, based on national polling.
I could not be more proud of our basketball team and our tremendous athletics program overall — both on and off the court. Our student-athletes continue to excel in their respective sports, and in the spirit of a research university, they also excel in the classroom by earning a cumulative 3.02 GPA.
I am grateful that so many people at VCU, and in Richmond, have supported our university, our student-athletes and our commitment to excellence in every way. Thank you for continuing that support throughout the NCAA Tournament, and beyond.
