genericTied for No. 17, VCU School of Pharmacy has risen four levels in the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings. That’s among 125 programs nationwide that are reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

VCU, which came in at No. 21 in the last U.S. News rankings, now ties at No. 17 with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy; and University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Dean Joseph T. DiPiro noted that the ranking is indicative of “the high regard other deans and pharmacy school administrators have for our VCU School of Pharmacy.”

U.S. News & World Report ranks the schools based on a survey of deans and other administrators and/or faculty at peer institutions. Respondents are asked to rate the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding) or to select “don’t know” if they do not have enough knowledge to rate a program. Each school was sent the same number of surveys; the pharmacy program response rate was 40 percent.

The Top 5 schools and colleges of pharmacy, according to the new rankings, are University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, University of California-San Francisco School of Pharmacy, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor College of Pharmacy and University of Texas-Austin College of Pharmacy.

Schools that received scores lower than 2.0 are listed alphabetically as “Rank Not Published.” Schools listed as “N/A,” or unranked, did not have the necessary accreditation status when the ranking was published.
