Inaugural interprofessional awards go to five SOP students
VCU School of Pharmacy students were selected to receive five of the nine inaugural Student Interprofessional Recognition Awards: Sarah Barden, Stacy Chen, Nellie Jafari, Samson Lee and Meghan Thompson. Barden, Chen, Jafari and Lee are members of the Pharm.D. class of 2015, and Thompson is a student in the Pharm.D./Ph.D. combined degree program.
The first-time awards were established by the university’s Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care to recognize students who have demonstrated significant involvement and interest in promoting interprofessional activities.
The award ceremony took place May 7 in the VCU School of Nursing courtyard. On hand from the School of Pharmacy were Cindy Kirkwood, interim associate dean for academic affairs; assistant professor Emily Peron; and Tom Reinders, associate dean for admissions and student services.
Students who participated in the VCU CLARION Interprofessional Case Competition also were recognized. Lily Jia and Nicholas Rebold, first-year Pharm.D. students, were two of the four MCV Campus students who made the university’s winning team. They went on to compete at the University of Minnesota, placing fourth out of 15 interprofessional teams from across the country.
