The Walgreen Company has been supporting diversity at VCU School of Pharmacy for the past 12 years. That’s when the Walgreen Company Scholarship began as an endowment fund to promote diversity.

“We are extremely pleased that Walgreens provides the school with an annual gift to promote diversity in its student body,” said Dean Victor Yanchick.  “We use part of this gift as a scholarship each year to recruit outstanding students from an economically disadvantaged or minority background. The rest of the gift goes to support our Summer Academic Enrichment Program for college seniors or graduates who wish to pursue pharmacy as a career.”

School of Pharmacy alumnus Charles “Rusty” Maney (B.S. ’87) delivered this year’s $10,000 donation to Yanchick in mid-November. Maney, who has been with the Walgreen Company for 17 years, is pharmacy supervisor for Richmond District #169.

Current Walgreens scholarship recipients are third-year Pharm.D. student Sarah Kruse and fourth-year student Gina Patel.
