Nursing students volunteer at medical outreach event in Southwest Virginia
Several VCU School of Nursing students and faculty members recently volunteered for the sixth year at one of the nation’s largest free medical outreach clinics. The Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic, held in Wise, Virginia, provided free medical care from volunteer medical professionals to approximately 2,000 medically underserved individuals.
Over three days, the nursing students collaborated with VCU School of Pharmacy students and other medical professionals to provide free medical, dental and vision care to patients. Students participated in triage services, pre-medication administration before dental procedures, medication reconciliation, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, and health promotion education.
