This week marks the celebration of National Nurse Practitioner Week. On behalf of the VCU School of Nursing, I want to thank all of our Nurse Practitioner faculty, alumni and students who work hard each and every day to make a difference in the nursing profession.

Nurse practitioners are highly educated, licensed clinicians who provide primary, acute and specialty health care services. These expert clinicians provide a full range of services, such as ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests; diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions; prescribing medications and treatments; and managing overall patient care.

As health care provider shortages continue to grow, the role of Nurse Practitioners is taking on even greater significance in delivering high-quality, cost-effective care to diverse patient populations. They are informed, involved and in touch with their patients, working as a partner in helping patients to navigate the complexities of today’s health care system. With the guidance of NPs, patients are able to make educated, affordable health care decisions and improve their quality of life.

The VCU School of Nursing has a tradition of educating the nation’s best nursing leaders. Our faculty continues to offer top-tier education to aspiring NPs who are poised to serve as vital leaders on the health care team. Our alumni make us proud as they provide transformative, patient-centered care in hospitals, private practices and other health care settings across the nation.

Your impact is immeasurable. Thank you again for all that you do.
