Goldwater Scholarship Nominations
The National Scholarship Office is proud to announce VCU’s four 2025 Goldwater Scholarship Nominees:
- Shreya Balasani is a junior biology major.
- Leiliani Clark is a junior bioinformatics major.
- Rohit Paradkar is a sophomore bioinformatics major.
- Varsha Penumalee is a sophomore biology major.
The Goldwater Scholarship Program, which honors the late Sen. Barry M. Goldwater, was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Each four-year university can nominate up to four students each year. The Goldwater Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
Established by Congress in 1986 and conferring scholarships since 1989, the Goldwater program encourages students to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. Since 2006, 18 VCU undergraduate researchers have been named Goldwater Scholars.
All four nominees applied for the Goldwater Scholarship through the National Scholarship Office, which assists VCU students and alumni who wish to compete for prestigious national and international scholarships.
