January:

Wednesday 1/20 @ noon: Postgraduate Scholarships Information Session. Learn about funded opportunities for postgraduate study in the UK, Ireland, China, and at Stanford University, as well as how the NSO can support you throughout the application process! Click here to register.

Thursday 2/11 @ 1-2:30pm: Gilman Scholarship Writing Workshop. Open to all students who receive a Pell Grant. This workshop will help prepare you to apply for (and hopefully receive!) a national scholarship to fund your future study abroad or virtual global program. Register in Rams Connect.

Monday 4/19 @ 4pm: Fulbright U.S. Student Program Information Session. The NSO, together with the Institute for International Education (IIE) who administers the Fulbright program, will offer this information session about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which provides funding for recent graduates and graduate students to spend an academic year abroad pursuing an independent project or a year of postgraduate study, or teaching English. Tuesday 4/20 @ 3pm: Goldwater Scholarship Information Session. In conjunction with VCU Research Week, the NSO will offer this information session about the Goldwater Scholarship, which provides up to $7,500 to second- and third-year undergraduates planning a career in STEM-field research. Wednesday 4/21 @ 1pm: National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program Information Session. In conjunction with VCU Research Week, the NSO will offer this information session about the NSF’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP), which funds up to three years of graduate study in the non-medical STEM fields. Open to graduating seniors, recent alumni planning on applying for graduate school in an eligible field, and first- and second-year graduate students (at the time of application). Friday 4/23 @ 2pm: Critical Language Scholarship Information Session. In conjunction with VCU Research Week, the NSO will offer this information session about the Critical Language Scholarship, which provides recipients with a funded opportunity to pursue the study of one of the State Department’s designated critical languages though a summer intensive language study abroad. NEW THIS SPRING: “How To Apply” Workshop Series for Postgraduate Scholarship Applicants!

For the first time, the NSO will be hosting a workshop series this spring to support applicants for postgraduate scholarships. The sessions will cover all the fundamental of completing these applications, including how to write compelling personal statements, thinking about whom to ask for letters of recommendation (and how to cultivate relationships with faculty and mentors that result in strong letters!), how to best present yourself in light of the opportunity you are applying to, and more.
