UPDATE: Water Advisory and Delayed Opening
MESSAGE SENT TO ALL RESIDENTS ON FRIDAY, JAN. 10, 2025:
Thank you for your flexibility with our need to adjust the return to campus timeline. As a reminder, if you’re a newly assigned resident for the spring, or in a 9-month first-year residence hall, move-in does not start until noon on Sunday, Jan. 12.
If you’re a resident living in one of our apartment-style residence halls and you haven’t already returned to campus, we ask that you delay your return until Sunday, Jan. 12.
At the time of this message, water has been restored in all residence halls and the City of Richmond boil water notice is still in effect until further notice. Please follow these tips:
- Before consuming any water from the tap in your kitchen or bathroom, it must be boiled for three minutes to be safely consumed. Running it through a water filter is not sufficient.
- Do not drink from water fountains or sinks in the residence halls.
- Do not use tap water to make drinks, juices, or fountain soft drinks.
- Do not wash your dishes using tap water – use boiled water or use paper plates for the next few days.
- Do not brush your teeth with tap water – use boiled or bottled water.
- Free water will be available at Rodney’s in Shafer Court Dining Center while supplies last. Each on-campus student may pick up approximately 10 bottles. Please bring something to transport your water. Water pick-up will be available on Sunday, Jan. 12 from noon to 9 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 13 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. This water will still be available even if the Water Boil Notice is lifted.
- If you have an active leak or facilities emergency, please call (804) 828-9444. If you live in Gladding Residence Center, you should call (804) 828-2226.
- If you have a non-emergency facilities need or further issues with any fixtures or appliances, please place a work order at fss.vcu.edu. Gladding Residence Center residents should place a work order at mycommunity.americancampus.com.
To prepare your return to campus on Sunday, please be aware of the following:
- The West Main Street (801 W. Main St.), West Broad Street (1111 W. Broad St.) and Broad & Belvidere (711 W. Marshall St.) parking decks will be open and free of charge to assist with residents moving back to campus.
- VCU Police will be on campus and providing traffic control for Main, Franklin and Grace streets around the residence halls to assist with residents returning to campus on Sunday, Jan 12.
- Residential Life and Housing will have limited carts in each residence hall to be checked out. Residents are encouraged to bring a personal dolly, wagon, hand truck, etc. to assist with their own move-in.
- Residence Hall Mail Centers at GRC, Rhoads and Brandt, and the Carriage House will be open Sunday, Jan. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. Academic year hours for our Mail Centers are located here: https://housing.vcu.edu/help/mail/
The greater Richmond area is expected to experience inclement weather later today and into the weekend. During inclement weather, please continue to see https://alert.vcu.edu/ for more information about campus operations. If you have any questions or concerns please email [email protected]. Thank you again for your patience and understanding during this time.
