We hope summer is treating you well. We are excited to welcome you to your new home in August for the 2022-2023 academic year. Below you will find instructions on how to sign up for a move-in time slot for your residence hall, preparation information, and what to expect when you arrive on campus to move in.

Sign-Up Information

Please follow the steps below to sign up for a time slot.

  • Visit the VCU Housing Portal
  • Select “Appointments” from the top menu
  • Select the “Move-in/Out Appointment”
  • Select a date and time of your desired time slot
  • Residents must sign-up two days prior to their desired time so that Residential Life and Housing can properly prepare for their arrival in advance

Preparations

  • Residents will need to bring their VCUCard to check-in to gain entry into the residence hall. Residents must have their VCUCard to complete their check-in process. If a resident does not have their VCUCard, then they must pick-up their VCUCard prior to their move-in time slot.
  • There will be limited carts provided to check-out, so we encourage residents to bring your own cart/dolly to assist you with the move-in of your personal belongings.
  • Do not bring pets as they are not allowed in the residence halls unless they are approved as a resident’s Emotional Support Animal or Service Animal.
  • Residents will need to print their move-in parking pass that is emailed to them to display in their vehicle windshield when using the parking deck.

What to Expect

Residential Life and Housing is taking a variety of precautions as we are committed to the safety of our residents, their guests and our staff during move-in. In an effort to provide a safe and seamless process, please adhere to the following expectations when coming to campus to move in:

  • Please know your residence hall color and follow the move-in map color code signage for each building to know where to unload and park your vehicle. It is important that you abide by the unloading zone with no parking signs as well as directions of VCU Police and VCU staff regarding unloading and parking around the residence halls.
  • There could be long wait times and lines for elevators at various points during move-in, so we ask that residents and guests be patient and get in line every time you need to use the elevator.
  • If residents and guests are able, we encourage them to use the stairs to move-in their items to help decrease the elevator lines.
  • Guest access for 9-month halls (Cary & Belvidere, GRC, GRC III, Rhoads, Brandt, Honors, West Grace South):
    • Guests will be able to assist without having to check-in between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., on August 18-20, 2022. Guests will need to be pre-registered to enter the residence hall after 8 p.m. on those days to assist residents with their move-in process. Residents may register their guests in the Housing Portal if they are needed after 8 p.m. to assist with move-in.
  • Guest access for 12-month halls (Ackell, Broad & Belvidere, Grace & Broad, West Grace North):
    • Guests will need to be pre-registered to enter the residence hall to assist residents with their move-in process. Residents must register their guests in the Housing Portal prior to their arrival.

If you have any questions regarding move-in instructions or expectations, please contact Residential Life and Housing at vcuhousing@vcu.edu or (804) 828-7666.
