Undergraduate programs at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) College of Engineering were recently reaccredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This distinction assures VCU College of Engineering programs meet standards that produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields.

“Our reaccreditation package delivered to ABET was accepted with no deficiencies, weaknesses or concerns,” said Jennifer Rivers, Ed.D., assistant dean for student affairs and enrollment management at the College of Engineering. “This is a feat that each ABET-accredited school strives for. It is a testament to the expertise of the faculty and staff supporting our undergraduate programs. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to our successful ABET reaccreditation process.”

Through the accreditation of academic programs, recognition of credentials and assessment of student learning, ABET supports excellence in education worldwide. Graduates from ABET-certified institutions are positioned to lead the way in innovation and emerging technologies while anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

The voluntary peer-review process ABET uses is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, accreditation  criteria focus on what students experience and learn. Reviews consider program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology currently accredits 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities in 41 countries.
