The latest news from Virginia Commonwealth University

After graduating from VCU, Daniel Brisker (B.S.’09/H&S) found work in his field in the Washington, D.C., area, and earned his M.S. in biotechnology/bioinformatics in 2014 from the University of Maryland. In 2015, he joined the Food and Drug Administration.

“I’m in the public health regulatory field in the Office of Compliance at the FDA,” he says. “[Our mission is] to shield patients from poor-quality, unsafe and ineffective drugs through compliance strategies and risk-based enforcement actions.”

Today, he’s a member of the DMV Chapter’s leadership committee.

In what other ways have you volunteered with VCU as an alumnus?

I joined the Recent Graduate Council in its first year because it was new, and I could provide ideas and shape recent grad engagement and continue to give back to a university that made such a big difference in my life. I also was a part of the programming and events committee for the African American Alumni Council. I’m the president-elect and involved in the council’s Mentoring Circle.

What has been your favorite DMV Chapter alumni event?

Basketball watch parties and the VCU Capitol Hill Reception in 2019 [when guests could learn about the university’s impact from Virginia representatives, senators and VCU administration].

Do you have any recommendations for newcomers for attractions and restaurants to check out in the D.C. area?

Visit all the museums. For restaurants: Founding Farmers, Zaytinya, Sprinkles bakery and cupcakes
