What tools helped you the most when you started out?
As an online candle and tea shop, finding my tribe was the first order of business. Facebook groups helped my brand develop a reliable supply chain, connect with like-minded entrepreneurs and gain valuable product knowledge.
Also, local business development offices and community development financial institutions were invaluable resources. From financial and tax accounting advice to mentorship connections, they helped with the tools needed to develop a strong business plan. They are also home to business incubators, which often provide funding for small businesses.
What was the biggest challenge to maintaining your business?
The biggest challenge of being an entrepreneur is maintaining growth while still wearing many hats.
What advice do you have for people considering starting a business?
Discover and embrace your “why.” Why are you starting this business? What need is it fulfilling? Your why should extend beyond financial gain. Once you are clear on your “why,” find your “star.” This is the person or brand that is making great strides in your space. Your star will help light your way.
