Clinical Trials Day 2025: A Celebration of Science, Impact, and Community
May 20 marks International Clinical Trials Day, a global recognition of the essential role that clinical research plays in advancing medicine and improving lives. At VCU, clinical trials are a powerful force for both discovery and impact–connecting patients with innovative therapies while driving economic growth and public health advancement.
In FY2024, VCU secured $506.9 million in sponsored funding, with over 22%–$112.9 million–dedicated to clinical research and clinical trials. These studies span cancer, addiction, heart disease, neuroscience, and more–bringing jobs and industry partnerships to Richmond and provide access to novel treatments for our patients. Funding from corporate sponsors alone exceeded $85 million, supporting jobs, research infrastructure, and access to cutting-edge care.
VCU is proud to be a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hub and home to the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our collaborations with the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network, and others to ensure our work reaches patients and communities across Virginia.
