Intuitive Painting for Art I
Art I is always a class that can be unpredictable for a new teacher. So my solution was to allow my students to use acrylic paint to depict the flower on their table. From a teaching perspective, this assignment can easily serve as a pre-assessment of students’ painting skills. Also, it gives the students opportunity for experimentation in style and approach to a new material.
While some students weren’t really interested in the assignment, (most likely those who were just placed in the class) others seemed to really enjoy it!
It has been about two weeks since I gave the students this assignment; and I have come to realize that my students were more engaged in this type of painting than the concept-heavy brainstorming they are doing now.
The results of their “Intuitive” Flower Pre-Assessments are really wonderful!
