No Kind Words Weft Behind!

Adventures of 5th grade!

With every big project comes a lot of brain storming! My 5th graders have been working on semester long project that has introduced them to Pattern, Color Psychology, Peruvian culture, and Weaving!

The project started off with an exercise using two pieces of scrap paper. On the first piece they wrote a worry or thought that has been on their mind. On the second, they wrote a color and the emotion that they associated with their worry, perhaps a color that they dislike or makes them feel a certain way.

Next the students painted patterns using their worry-colors on records, and learned about Mayan Colors of Humanity, textiles, and the one and only, Yayoi Kusama.

Once their paintings were complete, we discussed what they would say to a friend if they had the same worry as them. After brainstorming, the class used sharpie to write words of encouragement on their records.

Next we learned about about the Concenctric Circles of Moray, weaving in the Sacred Valley of Peru, and began weaving using our happy colors!
