Primary Buggies
At the beginning of my lesson for Kindergarten, I struggled a
lot with simplifying everything I taught. I had to breakdown my lesson
to its simplest form. I realized the language I used with my students
was too advanced and not clear or concise enough for them. Lastly, I
learned that a quarter of my students could use scissors to cut a
circle and the rest couldn’t. I really had to reflect and seek advice
from and observe my CT about how to go about teaching students
something they’ve never done.
After observing and reevaluating how I would go about teaching
the rest of my lesson, I started solving my problems. I checked for
understanding more often. I gave directions concisely 1 step at a
time, then would have my students stop and show me they were ready to
move on. Every day I taught Kindergarten, I got better and better at
teaching them and using my time wisely to get through my lesson. By
the last day of the lesson, I was very pleased with their work and
their self-evaluations showed me they knew their primary colors and
connected them to something in nature.
