VCU parents and families,

We wanted to share with you a message that was shared with students.

I want to extend a sincere apology for not notifying our students and their families connected to the Honors College sooner related to a recent emergency decision related to COVID-19 and their housing. This was specific to the Honors College Residence Hall. All information and updates can be found on their website.

Sincerely,

Dear VCU Honors College Residents,

I want to extend a sincere apology for not notifying you sooner of a recent emergency decision related to COVID-19 and your housing. I know that the social media posts and news media coverage that this activity has garnered are understandably upsetting. Adding to the stress of the upheaval of your lives during the COVID-19 crisis was the last thing we intended.

Although I know this message will not allay all of your concerns, I hope that it provides the response you need and deserve.

By ensuring your belongings were inventoried, boxed, labeled and relocated to storage, we were focused on the safety and well-being of our students and campus community. We did not feel it was prudent to bring students and families back on campus in large numbers. This decision was intended to allow you to have earlier access to your belongings. Additional information is available on the Residential Life and Housing website.

Our communication wasn’t as timely as it needed to be. It is always our intention to provide you with the most accurate information and to create a streamlined process for our students, parents and families. We are deeply sorry.

We ask that you share this apology with your family. We will work to ensure we communicate better in the future.

Sincerely,

Charles Klink, Ph.D.

Senior Vice Provost
