Despite the snowy start to the week, final exams are now in full swing. Finals can be a stressful time for students as they put all they’ve learned throughout the semester to the test and prepare to move on to new classes in the Spring. Understanding that your student may have been anxious about their exams, VCU held several events last week which encouraged students to take a break from studying and celebrate the end of the semester.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4 students had the opportunity to participate in Paws for Stress, where they could pet and play with therapy dogs from the VCU Center for Human-Animal Interaction. Dogs of various breeds and sizes were on hand in the Virginia room of the University Student Commons to comfort students from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and students took timed shifts sitting with the therapy dogs to pet their stress away.

Thursday, Dec. 6 had several events to help students relax. VCU New Student and Family Programs held their annual Ram exSCREAM event in the Commons Plaza where students gathered at 10 p.m. to let out a group scream to relieve their exam stress. There were also giveaways of fun and necessary items like t-shirts, scantrons and blue books. VCU Dine also held their annual Midnight Breakfast on Thursday. This year’s theme was “Winter Wonderland” and featured a snow globe photo booth, a live DJ, some breakfast food favorites and raffle prizes like a pair of Bose wireless headphones. Midnight Breakfast was held in Shafer Court Dining Center from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., giving students plenty of time to take a break and refuel.

The snow impacted all final exams on Monday, Dec. 10 and some exams on Tuesday, Dec. 11 when the university was closed due to inclement weather. A schedule of the make-up dates and times of all rescheduled exams can be found on the updated Fall 2018 Final Exam Schedule.
